Overview

When a page is viewed in HubMed, this information is currently stored along with an identifying number for the user. This number is stored in a cookie in the user's web browser, allowing multiple page views to be linked to the same user. The purpose of storing this data is to allow personalised recommendations to be made based on past reading habits.

No personal information will be shared (anonymous search data may be used for analysis and improvement of the search interface), but there is always a risk that someone gaining unauthorised access to the server could obtain this data. Therefore, HubMed provides the ability to clear any information associated with your browser or user account at any time.

Logging in, clearing search data from your user account

To improve the quality of recommendations, HubMed needs to follow use of the site. To keep your usage data associated with your HubMed account, log in manually (using the login button at the top of search pages) whenever the identifier cookie may have changed (such as when using a different computer or web browser, or after deleting cookies). Posting articles to HubMed's Tag Storage will also log you in automatically.

To create a HubMed user account, use this page.

To dissociate your user account from activity linked to any previous identifiers, use this page.

To prevent HubMed from setting an identifier cookie in your web browser in the future, add www.hubmed.org to the list of sites not allowed to set cookies in your web browser's preferences. Please note that this will also stop some features of HubMed, such as the clipboard, from working.
